Waiting for Life to Begin . . .

So I watched the movie P.S. I Love You last night. It was a heart-wrenching movie, but it did make me think. At the beginning of the movie, Holly was so focused on her future plans that she didn't enjoy the life she had in the present. She was waiting on her circumstances to change so her "life could begin." She didn't realize what she had until it was gone.

I have been completely guilty of this same mind-set. . . always waiting for the next "big thing" to happen so I could be happy.
~ When I go to college . . .
~ When I graduate from college and am in the "real world" . . .
~ When I get married . . .
~ When I have kids . . .
~ When I live in a different city . . .

Lately I have been very conscious of this temptation to live in the future (or in the past, another equally tempting prospect). I am trying to enjoy today - to appreciate the present for what it has to offer. I'm not saying it's easy, I'm just trying to get better at it. Any suggestions you have to make it easier would be great! :)

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:34)
